NEWS:
Bus Shelters
Cllr Richard Willis has given us the schedules for bus shelter
replacement:
Emmer Green Pond - 16 July
Buckingham Drive (inbound) - 16 July
Buckingham Drive (outbound) - 22 July
Rotherfield Way - 30 July.
St Barnabas Church - 25 August
Kiln Road - 25 August
Grove Hill / Hemdean Rd - 24 September
IMPORTANT:
Because of changing usage figures it is proposed to relocate
the former 23 bus shelter from the top end of Courtenay Drive
to the bottom. Please let us know, as soon as possible, whether
you want this or not, so we can inform Cllr Richard Willis.
Recreation Ground
Work is now completed on the new children’s play area.
Further landscaping will take place in the autumn. It has provided
a generous space for our young people enabling them to build
and develop social and recreational skills. It is proving to
be very popular. Unfortunately there is a small element whose
behaviour can be deemed as anti-social. This is being closely
monitored by the Police Community Support Team and the Parks
Department.
We have also been advised that when the Emmer Green Community
Centre is being rebuilt in July and August that supervised outdoor
activities for the Youth Club will be relocating the park on
Friday and Monday evenings. Games will cease at 9.00pm.
Caversham Good Neighbours
This voluntary organisation based in Caversham helps residents
of Caversham and Emmer Green by offering transport to local
surgeries, hospital etc. and home visits. They would like to
recruit more volunteers and also promote the service they offer.
Please phone the office on 0118 9483466 Monday to Friday 9.30am
-11.30am or Secretary Pat Rawlings on 0118 9477778.
History of Emmer Green website
For ten years this site has been hosted by Highdown School and
we wish to thank Jane Moody for her help creating the pages
and maintaining it. The school now has a new website which
is hosted externally. In future EGRA will be hosting the history
site. It may well take a while to reconfigure and incorporate
into the EGRA site. We will let you know when that is done.
Car Clampers
Please be aware that there has been a recent crackdown on illicit
parking at the precinct car park. It is a privately run car
park with a two hours maximum stay. We hope to get clarification
on the disabled bays and, if a miracle happens, better lighting.
Rosehill Cedar
It has come to our attention that the veteran tree planted 200
years ago is likely to be felled. EGRA members who live in
the vicinity have been informed of this intention.
Friends of Clayfield Copse
The group meets on the first Sunday in each month at 10.00am
in the car park, for active conservation work in and around
the woods. For more details and contact information, visit
their website.
New volunteers are always welcome. Phone Anne Latto on 0118
